Let’s begin our Toilet-Tips page by acknowledging that a toilet, whether household or public, is a germ-infested waste bowl. For some unknown reason, most people overlook the harmful risks associated with dealing with this contaminated sewage hole.
That being said, the below tips are highly recommended measures that everyone should consider following when dealing with this dirty job:
- Prior to beginning any dealings with your toilet, whether cleaning or plunging, Please thoroughly sanitize your hands with a safe, yet potent disinfectant.
NOTE: ToiletMate Super Sanitizer by Total Sanitizer provides the most effective, alcohol and Triclosan Free, gentle on skin, disinfectant/sanitizer that kills 99.999% of most all germs that cause illness.
- Wearing rubber gloves and/or face mask is recommended for optimal protection during cleaning and plunging.
When “CLEANING” your toilet, select a potent bowl cleaner/disinfectant that also has a type of odor eliminator such as, “OdoBan”, or something similar. By doing so you can clean, disinfect and deodorize all at the same time making the process most efficient.
- Pour a liberal amount of the cleaner/disinfectant/deodorizer into the bowl.
- Next, place your toilet brush head first inside the bowl and lodge the head inside the toilet drain thus leaving the handle upright.
- Slide your ToiletMate Anti-Microbial Splash Shield over the brush handle and peel and stick the back upper rim first, then both sides and lastly the front, making a tight seal around the bowl.
- Proceed to safely clean, disinfect and deodorize your toilet with no risk of harmful splash-back or harmful airborne bacteria coming up in your face.
When “PLUNGING” your toilet, first make an assessment of how full of waste water the bowl is?
- If your toilet waste is close to the brim then you will need to slide your ToiletMate Anti-Microbial Splash Shield over your plunger handle before inserting it into the bowl.
- After your plunger is locked and loaded with a new ToiletMate you can now insert the head of the plunger into the bowl and proceed to float the head and balance the handle against your shoulder.
- Next, peel and stick the back upper rim first, then both sides and lastly the front, making a tight seal around the bowl.
NOTE: If the waste water level inside the bowl is low you can insert your plunger head into the bowl, stabilize the head on the bottom of the bowl and have the handle remain upright as you slide the new ToiletMate over the top of the handle and proceed to peel and stick per the above directions.
- Next, it’s very important that you place the extended flange on the bottom of your plunger head securely around the perimeter of your toilet drain making a tight seal. Next, flush the toilet and thrust the plunger downwards against the blockage.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you flush a clogged toilet the air pocket between the waste water and the underside of your ToiletMate Anti-Microbial Splash Shield creates significant added pressure against the clog due to the physics and allows you to unclog your toilet in a fraction of the time it used to take.
- Once the blockage is clear you can now peel away the front edge of your ToiletMate and pour a liberal amount of your favorite cleaner/disinfectant/deodorizer into the bowl.
- Thoroughly agitate your plunger around the inside of the toilet bowl as you clean, disinfect and deodorize your entire bowl, plunger and the underside of your used ToiletMate.
- Lastly peel away all four sides of your ToiletMate and dispose into the trash. For the first time ever your toilet bowl, and your plunger are clean, disinfected and deodorized!

Daily T-Tip: After each use and before flushing your toilet shut the toilet lid to prevent toxic gases and fumes coming up from sewage lines connected to your toilet drain. It’s a known fact that when you flush your toilet and the trap is clear it opens a two-way tunnel into the connected sewage line and harmful fumes, gases, and even fecal bacteria will come up through your drain and enter into your bathroom. This can potentially contaminate anything nearby, including your toothbrush! Be safe, close the lid each and every time before flushing!
